Papyri.info

The database contains digitised papyrus collections from various libraries around the world, including the Gothenburg University Library.

The University Library's collection consists of 129 papyri from Egypt. The oldest are almost 2000 years old and the youngest are about 1200 years old. Most of the texts are Greek, but some Coptic and some Arabic texts are also in the collection. The collection is mixed in terms of time, geography and content. Although all the papyri are both written and found in Egypt, the places of origin and discovery are very different, and for many fragments they cannot be determined at all. The content of the papyri varies greatly, and most are of a documentary nature. They include a list of deliveries of oil and wine, fragments of accounts, a receipt for seeds, a wage agreement, some letters and a kind of guarantee. The only literary fragment is a fragment of an unknown epic text.
